Conservatives Launch Plan to Unleash Innovation
Years of government red tape created by the Ottawa Liberals have sent Canadian innovators to the United States or other countries.
This week we Conservatives announced our plan to unleash innovation to make Canada the best place to launch and grow an innovative business.
Canada’s Conservatives will invest $5 billion over the next five years to fund programs aimed at making major advances in the use of hydrogen, small nuclear reactors, private sector innovation in the space sector, electric vehicle development and manufacturing, and pharmaceutical research and production.
This investment will be managed by a new Canada Advanced Research Agency headquartered in Calgary. This new agency will make use of Alberta’s highly educated workforce.
Next, we will incentivize Canadian companies to develop new products by cutting the income tax rate in half for new patented technologies developed in Canada. Conservatives will cover up to $10,000 of the administrative and legal costs of each of the first five new patents filed by any Canadian small or medium-sized business.
Canada currently has programs to help Canadian innovators, but they a complex with extensive paperwork. We will simplify and streamline these programs, so they benefit Canadians.
Finally, Conservatives will make Canada the best place in the world to finance and scale a tech start-up by introducing flow-through shares for tech companies, exempt Canadian-controlled start-ups headquartered and with at least 2/3 of their employees in Canada from the current plan to tax stock options, create a tax credit for buying from a Canadian start-up, and direct the government to finally start buying from innovative Canadian startups.
Canadians are among the most innovative people on earth and it’s time that the government gets out of the way, cuts red tape, and lets innovators innovate.
Leader of Canada’s Conservatives To Seek Intervenor Status in Winnipeg Virus Lab Court Case
Today, Erin O’Toole announced that he will seek intervenor status in an ongoing court case in which the Ottawa Liberals are attempting to prevent the release of documents to Parliament relating to the scientists from the People’s Republic of China at the Winnipeg Virology Lab.
If the Ottawa Liberals won’t release the documents to Parliament and are willing to go as far as suing the Speaker of Parliament to hide the documents then the only answer is for Canada’s Conservatives to join the court case and make the case for transparency and honesty with the public directly to the court.
Federal government expected to run deficits until 2070
Fiscal responsibility is a critical component of public governance. One simply cannot spend money forever, printing and borrowing can only last so long. Unfortunately, the federal Liberals never got the memo. The non-partisan Parliamentary Budget Officer recently published estimates on the federal government’s fiscal stability. He found that spending on the new programs created by the Liberals, coupled with a weaker fiscal position because of the pandemic, will further extend the timeline for the government to balance the budget, even up to 2070. As conservatives have always said, budgets don’t balance themselves, and it takes focused hard work to stabilize public finances. While the Liberals try to spend more of your money, the Conservatives will balance the budget as we did after the financial crisis in 2008/09. We will also make job growth a priority to restore incomes, get tax dollars in to stabilize our finances, and work to combat the inflation that is eating away at our livelihoods.
Robert Schellenberg and Michael Spavor sentenced in China
After over a thousand days of arbitrary detention in the People’s Republic of China, Michael Spavor has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for espionage by Beijing’s courts, a process during which the PRC was criticized by many countries for lack of transparency and politicized judicial decision making. Robert Schellenberg, another Canadian detained by Beijing, had his sentence increased from a 15-year term to the death penalty, a sign of pressure from the Beijing government for Canada to release Meng Wanzhou. The federal Liberals have been soft on China for years, and this cannot continue any longer. Canada’s Conservatives condemn the rulings and urge the federal government to take decisive action to protect Canadians abroad.
Recognizing Community Artists in Dover
This week, I presented Karen, Sarah, Ann, Courtney, and Jessica for certificates of appreciation for their community work. They took initiative and made walking paths around the Dover Community Centre more interactive by painting on a total of 10 city blocks surrounding the centre. This was party of a Dover community beautification project. This is a great project that will make the community more enjoyable!
