NDP-Liberals Firearms Confiscation Explained
And yet, violent gun crime surges by 116% over past 9 years. Plus, NDP-Liberals immigration levels plan defies common sense, and highlights from Christmas parades.
The NDP-Liberal government have started another attack on lawful firearms owners while ignoring the continuing rise of violent crimes, violent gun crime and homicides. Instead of targeting the actual problem of violent gangs and criminals using illegally acquired guns, the NDP-Liberals are targeting law-abiding firearms owners, many of whom are farmers, hunters, Indigenous peoples, and sports shooters. After 9 years, these Liberals have announced many firearms confiscation plans, and despite spending approximately $60 million to implement those plans, they have failed to take a single gun off the street through those plans. Confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens is not the answer to keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals.
The Liberals are claiming their confiscation plan is necessary to keep Canadians safe from violent gun crime. What has their record been for the past nine years? Abysmal. Violent gun crime has increased by 116% since the Liberals took power. In Toronto, shootings are up 45% over the past year, and gun-related homicides have tragically risen by 62%. There was even a recent disturbing incident where a violent carjacker, who was out on bail, was shooting at cars while walking along a Toronto highway. These violent crimes are not occurring because of law-abiding firearm owners but because the Liberals made life easier for criminals. They implemented the release bail system they created with Bill C-75, but also because they have reduced penalties for at least nine gun crimes through Bill C-5. Those reduced penalties include:
Using a firearm or imitation firearm in commission of an offence
Possession of a firearm or weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized
Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
Possession of weapon obtained by commission of offence
Importing and Exporting knowing it is unauthorized
Discharging firearm with intent
Discharging firearm — recklessness
Robbery with a firearm
Extortion with a firearm
The Liberals also failed to take Canada’s border security seriously, which has increased the number of criminals using illegally acquired guns to unleash carnage on our streets, as multiple police unions have stated that 85% of the guns they seize are traced back to the U.S.
If the Liberals were serious about reducing gun violence and keeping Canadians safe, they would get rid of their deadly catch-and-release system and lenient sentencing laws, as well as fix the border disorder they have caused. They have failed to do so. Only a common sense conservative government will make this a reality with a series of legislative changes to reverse the criminal code changes that have brought violent crime to our streets.
I questioned the Liberals in Parliament on immigration levels, asking where their plan was to ensure their call for a net 900,000 people with expiring visas actually leave when their time in Canada is up. Their plan assumes 816,900 people will enter the country in 2025 and 659,036 will enter in 2026, while 1.26 million will leave the country in 2025 and 1.1 million will leave in 2026. That means a combined net 900,000 individuals will have to leave the country in two calendar years. Considering how large that number is, I asked the Liberals in Parliament what mandatory and voluntary measures they will implement to ensure these people will leave. Not only did the Liberal parliamentary secretary, like a sidekick to the minister, not give a straight answer to my simple question; he made a laughable claim saying the border was secure. I was quick to remind him of the recent case where a terror suspect who had just been deported from the U.S. was able to cross the Canada-U.S. border illegally twice since 2017. I asked this same Liberal parliamentary secretary if he would have liked to amend his statement that the border is, in fact, secure when we have border disorder that is bringing new trade tensions with our U.S. neighbour to the south, but like the first time he did not answer my question. Only Conservatives will end the Liberal’s border disorder and fix the Liberal broken immigration system.
The Liberals and the Bloc Quebecois voted against a common sense Conservative motion that would have axed the GST on new homes under $1 million. If this passed, it would save Canadians up to $50,000 on the price of a new home and sparked the construction of 30,000 more homes annually. Instead, Canada’s housing crisis will continue under the Liberal government as housing inflation continues to rise faster than in any other G7 country, pricing millions of Canadian families and workers. Axing the sales tax on new homes would give a big boost to the Calgary housing market, which the Calgary Herald reported has also become unaffordable after nine years of the Liberals in power. The final vote count was 146 for axing the sales tax on new homes and 186 against. Conservatives are the only party that will end the Liberal’s housing crisis and bring homes Canadians can afford.
Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and stopped by my coffee and sweets stop at the Auburn Bay Parade of Lights and the Mahogany Parade of Lights these past two weeks. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hannukah during the holiday break with family and friends.
Dear Mr. Kmiec, Thank you for your article. This is very nice of you... However, much of what you write simply appears to be comments on previously published news.. We already know that the Liberal government is grossly incompetent.. WE WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR INCOMING GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO DO TO FIX THIS MESS.. The figures that have been quoted for the absolute number of visas that are to expire and hence people who are supposed to leave before December 31, 2025 is 4.9 million (I think I got that correct).. Many of these people are not going to leave voluntarily and the CBSA does not have the resources to remove them... We need mass deportations.. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO??
As a lifelong trained and licenced firearm owner I find it absolutely repulsive and beyond comprehension how this incompetent Liberal government continues to act in a vacuum? They continue to demonstrate how out of touch they are with Canadian people and what is really going on in this country! And we the taxpayers get to pay for yet another Liberal boondoggle! They should be in jail!
